"My grandfather, Howard F. Goodison was in Company ‘C”, 326th AEB, 101st Airborne and served from 1942 thru 1945. He saw it all….from Normandy to Bertchesgarten. Unfortunately, it was not until after his death in 1999 that I really immersed myself into the history and deeds of the 101st and all the servicemen from WWII. What I would give to have a conversation with him now that I have educated myself into the exploits of the 101st. It is very difficult to piece together his exact path across Europe since the 326th were often attached to other units/PIR’s. My goal is to be able to re-trace his path across Europe and put it in writing for his children and grand children.
I was so happy to read of your upcoming book on the 326 Engineers. I’m sure it will help to connect some of the dots. It is so nice to read that a young person such as yourself, has the deep appreciation and respect for the allied soldiers who fought to liberate Belgium and Europe. According to the media here, all of Europe despises the US. We know that’s not the case, but it’s still nice to have it reinforced by the work/writings of someone such as yourself. I have a circle of friends here that had fathers and grandfathers who were WWII veterans. We won’t forget and our children won’t forget. I am just a little sad and embarrassed that it took us so long to wake up and recognize their sacrifices. We haven’t fought any world wars on our soil. That, in combination with our hangover from Viet Nam, delayed much of the appreciation for the magnitude of WWII. Or as Tom Brokaw said, “WWII was of such enormity, that it took us 50 years to fully comprehend it”.
Thank you for all your efforts and I look forward to this book."
